The Management Association of the Philippines (MAP) awarded Hans T. Sy, Chairman of the Executive Committee of SM Prime Holdings, Inc., the 2025 MAP Management Person of the Year on November 24, honoring his decades-long dedication to sustainability, disaster resilience, and social responsibility.

As the 49th recipient of this accolade, Sy's leadership transformed SM Prime into a benchmark for sustainable urban development through environmental stewardship, social inclusion, governance, and resilience (ESG+R).

During his tenure as SM Prime president from 2004 to 2016, Sy oversaw the expansion of the company's portfolio across the Philippines and China, encompassing malls, residences, offices, hotels, and leisure properties. Under his guidance, SM integrated advanced building management systems, LED lighting, and solar energy.

The company also pioneered sewage treatment plants for water recycling, and accelerated waste-to-fuel solutions alongside customer-centered recycling programs.

In his own words, Sy stated, "I have never seen myself as someone deserving of awards or recognition. I simply try to do my part. What matters most to me is using what we build to make a difference in our country."

MAP emphasized his people-centered leadership, promotion of diversity, and support for micro, small, and medium enterprises, local government units, and communities near SM malls.

As the fourth child of SM Group founder Henry Sy, Sr., Hans Sy's achievements were recognized not only for their scale but also for being built with integrity, foresight, compassion, and the belief that business success and social progress are inseparable.

The award highlighted Sy's role in demonstrating that management excellence means leaving no one behind while building a more resilient future for all, solidifying SM Prime's position at the forefront of sustainable development in Southeast Asia.
