Just five months after its grand opening, SM City Xiamen Haicang (SM Haicang), a new commercial gem from SM China, has bagged a spot on "Mall China 2025 Annual Star List for Newly Opened Shopping Centers." The announcement came at the 2026 Mall China New Year Forum held in Shenzhen on March 26.
As SM China's first commercial project outside Xiamen Island, SM Haicang has set its sights on modern families, industrial youth, and students. It drives footfall through a "first-in economy" approach and niche-based social interactions, creating a chill lifestyle and relaxed social space.
The mall kicked off with a bang, boasting over 200 brands, including 90 first-in-market stores at various tiers, hitting a remarkable 46% first-in rate. For pet lovers, it offers a comprehensive experience spanning pet-themed stores, exclusive facilities, and curated events. By syncing its membership system with SM Xiamen, it shares a pool of 1.5 million members, pooling resources from nearly 1,000 merchants and cross-industry partners.
Since day one, SM Haicang has been a marketing dynamo. During its opening, it collaborated with artist Shan Xiaoming's "ENERTEN EVERYWHERE" IP to create large-scale interactive installations. It also brought in the Fujian premiere of "Touch Fish" from the Wuzhen Theatre Festival, comedy open mics, and music festivals, carving out a unique venue identity.
For the recently Spring Festival, SM Haicang introduced the Gutian Giant Dragon, a national intangible cultural heritage treasure. Blending Min-nan traditional colored painting techniques and Tong'An dragon-tiger lantern traditions, it launched an intergenerational cultural celebration that connected ancient heritage with modern commerce.
As an authoritative platform in China's shopping center industry, Mall China steers industrial growth through its influential media and service platforms. Its annual "Star List," launched in 2019, is the benchmark for assessing industry players' market clout and growth prospects.
