2022 China Climate Action Week

To commemorate the proposal of China's carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals in 2020, WWF and the Publicity and Education Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment jointly launched a series of "Climate Action Week" activities on September 22 this year to enhance the public's awareness and action in support of carbon neutrality.

This year, SM has joined hands with WWF as the pioneer of 2022 Climate Action Week, leveraging our publicity strengths and cohesiveness to combine carbon neutrality with more daily initiatives, to achieve carbon peaking and carbon neutrality and contribute to clean & beautiful China and a better life.

【Carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals】

On September 22, 2020, China pledged that it will scale up its Intended Nationally Determined Contributions by adopting more vigorous policies and measures. Aim to have carbon dioxide emissions peak before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060.

【Carbon neutrality】

Carbon neutrality refers to that within a certain period of time (generally one year), the total amount of carbon directly or indirectly emitted by human activities and the total amount of carbon absorbed through afforestation, industrial carbon fixation, etc. offset each other to achieve net-zero carbon emissions.

【Carbon peak】

Carbon peak refers to the highest annual greenhouse gas emissions in a region or industry. It is the historical turning point of greenhouse gas emissions from increasing to decreasing, and marks the transformation of economic development from high energy consumption and high emissions to a clean and low energy consumption model.
